ROCKIN’ THE BOX
Been reading Diggin’ For Gold in the new December RC, and was drawn to the Rockin’ The Box feature about the Daily Mirror British Rock And Pop Awards 1976, which says the footage is, “unseen since its original transmission” and, “clips are very few and far between”. You may be interested to see I’ve attached a picture of a video given a commercial release in Italy in 1985, with the curiously abbreviated title of “The British Rock And Pop” (Videomusic V 3620). It contains a selection of tracks from this awards concert, the Quo tracks being Is There A Better Way?, Roll Over Lay Down and Don’t Waste My Time.
To the best of my knowledge this Quo footage is unique to this video release – it’s certainly never appeared on any British commercial video or DVD – and Quo collectors bid the video up to around the £50 mark when it appeared on eBay last year. Perhaps surprisingly, there’s a real dearth of footage of classic-era Quo live on stage in their mid-70s heyday – and a very large market for it.
