MISTAKE A LA MODE

Thanks to Wallace Burt (Letters, RC 337) for pointing out that Depeche Mode played Route 66 on their tours. It is, of course, a matter of definition as to whether this is counted as being recorded by them, as my original Song Remains The Same column suggests, or recorded by management/record company etc whilst they were performing. As I also find it hard to ‘get a life’ with my constant checking of facts, I have always regarded that anything not recorded specifically for auio release does not count. I realise that many will argue that any recorded format such as film, bootleg or demos should be included, but I’m afraid the amount of material that this would involve checking through for every artist that I mention really would take away what little ‘life’ I have. So, though I am sure Depeche Mode, and all other acts I mention, recorded several other cover versions, in living rooms whilst trying to get a record deal, in concerts, and in documentaries and guest appearances on TV programmes, I shall not be including them in future articles.
