IN VERA VERITAS

I know you can’t cover everything, and your mix is outstanding, but three artists stand out as glaring omissions: that great singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka; Bobby Vee, who really typifies early 60s pop; and lastly – don’t snigger – Vera Lynn.

Having bought her new five-CD box set on Spectrum, I was surprised by the range of music she covered between 1935 and 1981. We tend to think of her as just We’ll Meet Again, but she really was a first-class singer with excellent timing. Her cover of Buffy St Marie’s Until It’s Time For You To Go is superb. Do an interview with her before it’s too late. Who else could tell us what it was like working in a recording studio over 70 years ago? What stories she must have to tell. Brilliant Jimmy Page feature by the way.
