DEPECHE KICKS ON ROUTE 66
Re: the Song Remains The Same column and the debate over whether Depeche Mode’s cover of Route 66 was released as a record: Route 66 was indeed a track on the original CD singles of Behind The Wheel and is available on those as Original Version, Beatmasters Mix and Casualty Mix. It also appears on the Music For The Masses Limited Edition Remix CD as Rodgers Mix, promo CD as Acoustic Mix, The Niagara Radiostation CD as Rubble Dubble Mix, The Second Strike CD as Behind The Wheel/ Route 66 Ivan Megamix), X1-Uno CD The Twelve Inches as Beatmasters Mix and X2 Sex B-Sides CD. I hope it therefore counts as a recorded cover version as in the context of your original piece. Sorry to be picky, but then, isn’t that why we all love Record Collector?
