DARK SIDE OF THE RADIO
Sean Perot’s letter “Radio Ga-Ga”, struck a chord with me as I too have long thought that thousands, if not millions, of rock fans of my age group are being almost ignored by radio. So I pitched a new show idea to the station manager of Skyline 102.5FM, where I was already presenting a 60s show on Sundays called My Generation. I called the new show Dark Side Of The Moon and decided to feature, as the title implies, mainly tracks from 70s albums which sold by the million, yet are hardly ever heard on British radio. To his credit, the station manager agreed and the first show went out about two months ago, on its now regular time slot of Wednesdays, between 8-10pm.
As the promo for the show says, how many radio shows do you know that play Neil Young, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd or Humble Pie? This one does. On a recent show listeners heard Jade Warrior, Van Der Graaf Generator, Barclay James Harvest, Cressida, Tudor Lodge, Edgar Broughton Band, Mountain and Montrose, as well as lighter music from Joni Mitchell, JJ Cale and Gallagher and Lyle, and the weekly album of the week selected by a listener, from Marvin Welch and Farrar.
Skyline 102.5FM can be heard locally in the Eastleigh area or online at www.skylinefm.com, and I’d be grateful if you would spread the word.
