BEATLES MIS-PRESSINGS

Thought you might like to hear about a couple of mispressed Beatles singles I’ve not yet seen mentioned elsewhere. These are original UK Parlophone singles with the ‘Sold In UK’ etc statement. First is Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever on R 5570 (push-out centre copy). This was found to have the labels reversed, thus the side that states Penny Lane plays Strawberry Fields and vice versa.

Perhaps more startling is Hello Goodbye/”I Am The Walrus on R 5655 (solid centre copy). The B-side matrix on the label is the usual 7XCE 18434. I was startled to see 7YCE 18434-2 stamped in the inner groove and on playing it, it was indeed the STEREO version of the song!

The matrix number for I Am The Walrus is the same on the single and the Magical Mystery Tour EP. As the latter was issued in both mono and stereo it appears the version intended for the stereo version of the EP somehow found its way on the back of this Hello Goodbye single in error! What a fascinating novelty!
