ANIMAL MAGNETISM
Phil Cossey’s letter in RC348, commenting on my letter in RC347 is based on a typo. In my letter regarding the current Animals, I had written ‘…the group has only one original Animal in it – John Steel, the drummer’. Unfortunately, checking my original email, I had put a period after Steel instead of a comma and the editor added ‘the drummer’ onto the next sentence about Mickey Gallagher. Phil is correct, that Gallagher was the temporary keyboard player between Price and Rowberry. As well as being in Ian Dury’s Blockheads, Gallagher is also well known among psych fans as a member of Skip Bifferty along with another future Blockhead, John Turnbull.
Incidentally, Strange Days Records in Japan has recently released a double live CD by the original Animals. The Last Live Show was recorded on November 29, 1983 in Detroit. (It’s not actually the last show and the CD has the year wrong). Two outtakes from the 1970s’ reunion are also included.
